Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios announced today that the next entry in the Mortal Kombat franchise will be released this September.

The new game, titled Mortal Kombat 1, isn’t a remake such as a blast back to the past and will feature familiar faces, new combat modes, and buckets of gore if the trailer is anything to go by.

The new trailer is a cinematic and bloody preview of what’s to come when the game releases on September 19 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

The game is touted as a “reborn Mortal Kombat universe created by the Fire God Liu Kang.”

It promises a “new fighting system, game modes, and fatalities” and mechanics like Kameo fighting partners, where you can pick from a “unique” roster of helpful characters who will assist you in fights.
