As we head into the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, Nintendo lifts the veil on more highly anticipated features.

Taking inspiration from this year’s Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Scarlet and Violet features an open world ripe for exploration

Nintendo and developer Game Freak announced a new Pokémon. Gimmighoul is a Ghost-type Pokémon with two forms. Its chest form looks like a treasure chest, providing strong defensive stats. Conversely, the roaming form is more nimble; Paldea lore says that no Pokémon Trainer has managed to capture one.

Part of the game’s lore is further elaborated with the Scarlet Book and Violet Book.

These books feature sketches, logs, and experiences dealing with wild and mysterious Pokémon. A couple of excerpts were provided by Nintendo:

  • The Monster Known as Great Tusk
The Scarlet Book describes how this savage monster attacked the expedition team with its large body and tusks, mortally wounding one of the explorers.
  • The Monster Known as Iron Treads
It is said in the Violet Book that when this monster curls its body and rolls to attack, it leaves a trail gouged into the ground, as if it had scorched the earth.

Get Ready for Tera Raid Battles

Nintendo also teases what to expect with the upcoming Black Crystal Tera Raid Battles.

A new feature for Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet, Tera Raid Battles, requires players to join with three other Pokémon Trainers. They will battle against wild Terastallized Pokémon, which can result in the chance to capture these rare Pokémon.

Announced today, the Black Crystal Tera Raid Battle requires players to face off against a Charizard Pokémon.

Specific details are as follows, according to a press release:

  • Charizard with the Mightiest Mark will be appearing in black crystal Tera Raid Battles!
This Charizard will be appearing during two time periods: first December 1–4, 2022; then again December 15–18, 2022. Charizard cannot normally be encountered in Paldea, and the Charizard appearing during this event has Dragon as its Tera Type.
  • Players will be able to take on Tera Raid Battles at black crystals after completing certain postgame events. However, players who haven’t completed the event may still participate in these Tera Raid Battles by joining other Trainers in multiplayer by using a Link Code.

Nintendo further announced that certain Tera Raid Battle events could increase your chance of capturing special Pokémon. The first one advertised is the Eevee Spotlight, taking place from November 24th through the 27th.
