Playing video games online is a great way to relax and unwind after a busy day. Yet sometimes, the online gaming experience can be incredibly aggravating. One game, in particular, has been discovered to be the most frustrating game to play online: Grand Theft Auto V.
A recent study performed by Bonusetu has discovered the ten most frustrating games to play online. First, the research compiles recent Tweets concerning popular games, such as Grand Theft Auto, Elden Ring, and others. Then, analysts filter common complaints like bots, lag, or game instability from there.
Here are the top ten most frustrating games to play online.
Grand Theft Auto V
Even a decade after its release, Grand Theft Auto V still topped this list. Usually, it’s praised for its open world, engaging gameplay, and impressive replayability. Not here, though. Today, we’re talking about its frustrating and aggravating gameplay experience.
A chief concern amongst gamers is the number of bots they encounter online. Whether it’s the spam bots or players using bots to cheat the system, GTA fans aren’t afraid to express disgust with the online experience.
The Elder Scrolls Online
Speaking of cheaters, this is the chief complaint concerning The Elder Scrolls Online. Typically, Elder Scrolls games are single-player adventures. After that, it’s just you and the world, where your imagination is the only limitation.
Elder Scrolls Online brings the franchise online with other players. Unfortunately, that means that cheaters are also eager to gain an advantage.
Hollow Knight
The third most frustrating game on the list is Hollow Knight. A beloved independent Metroidvania, it has a cult-like following and many fans. That doesn’t excuse it from frustration, however.
A chief concern from fans is the game’s crashes and stability issues. Most of these issues seem targeted at the PC version of the game. Fans mention that the game is suffering issues with crashing despite reinstalling the game, lowering graphics settings, and even running the game as an administrator.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
If you’ve followed the news concerning Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the game’s inclusion in this list shouldn’t be a surprise. Scarlet and Violet were one of the worst launches for Nintendo in terms of bugs, glitches, and stability.
Remarkably, the biggest concern Pokémon fans had wasn’t the bugs but the bots. A logical explanation may be the trade bots fans have set up to ensure they can acquire desired Pokémon.
The Rest of the Top Ten
The rest of the games in the top ten most frustrating gaming list features, in order, God of War: Ragnarök, Persona 5 Royal, Elden Ring, Red Dead Redemption 2, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Cyberpunk 2077.
As much as we love Elden Ring, its issues concerning crashes and performance on PC were well documented at launch. The same is true for Cyberpunk 2077, a game that was so buggy on release that many wondered why it wasn’t delayed.
With Red Dead Redemption 2, the chief complaint was lag in the online experience. Persona 5 Royal fans experienced crashing and stability issues upon release. God of War and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order gamers were most frustrated by bots.
Analyzing the Results
Commenting on the findings, a Bonusetu spokesperson said the following.
“Playing video games online offers various benefits, including encouraging teamwork and socialization, so it’s a shame to see so many people put off doing so due to frustrations around gameplay and cheating. The onus is on developers to improve their anti-cheating software for online platforms as well as consoles, otherwise players will jump to alternative titles with fewer issues.”
One remarkable note about these games is that they are, for the most part, beloved by fans and critics. It’s a testament to the staying power and quality of these titles. Gamers can overcome their frustrations if they know it’s worth it.
