Players always find interesting ways to explore a game. That even includes finding hidden notes that only the determined would be able to understand. Not only did Diablo 2: Resurrected revive a fan-favorite title, but it also brought along hidden messages to find. By this time, the original and remake have been dissected to a startling degree. Still, no one expected to find a series of hidden messages that needed to be deciphered. Since pro-players have likely beaten the game tens of times, this is an intriguing mystery just waiting to be solved.
The Diablo 2: Resurrected Hidden Messages
Diablo 2 was one of Blizzard’s best-selling and most popular titles. So it’s a bit strange that it took 21 years for a remake to appear. Regardless, Diablo 2: Resurrected was greeted with high sales, and now Blizzard is luring players in with a secret code. These messages were apparently inserted into the game with patch version 2.5. Slowly but surely, players have gone on a treasure hunt to reveal the true meaning.
As examined by The Tech Game, the messages were revealed in an image at the bottom of the patch notes themselves. The image displayed an open notebook with a bunch of random characters surrounded by cold coins. By combining these and using an alleged Vigenère Cipher, players were able to discern that the code corresponded to in-game actions which revealed more messages. The last uncovered message described some cryptic lore writing and prompted players to submit their ideas to a Google spreadsheet.
Despite how mysterious this may seem, Diablo 2: Resurrected has always been fairly understandable in general. As one of several heroes, you are tasked with hunting down the Dark Wanderer. Having been possessed by Diablo in the previous game, it appears the Arch Demon is preparing their return. You’re all alone as you make your way through a vast overworld clicking enemies to death and swapping out gear as soon as new stuff drops. There’s a lot to uncover in the game both on the surface and far below.
Diablo 2: Resurrected is still somewhat young, being a little over a year old, but this has been one of the most intriguing patches it has applied so far. By including secret messages that allude to new content that players can influence, that’s more than enough reason for them to take up code-breaking.
