There is an enormous amount of excitement in the gaming world for FromSoftware’s Elden Ring. The director of the title, Hidetaka Miyazaki, is a huge fan of Game of Thrones and was able to bring George R.R. Martin on board to build out the world for him.
The game was originally set to be released in June of this year, but like many others, was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will now be released on February 25th on multiple platforms.
Some lucky gamers will be able to play the game in a test that will run from November 12-14th. Others looking to see what the title is all about can check out a 15-minute snippet that was recently dropped by FromSoftware.
As expected, the title looks like a cross between Game of Thrones and Miyazaki’s previous hit, Dark Souls. The clip shows a map that can be customized by players to help them achieve their goals.
The trailer also reveals that magic will be an important part of the game. Players are able to summon spirits, magical swords, and even, in the spirit of GOT, a dragon made of flames.
Like everyone else, Martin is eager to get a look at the game. He said during a recent interview, “My work on it was actually done years ago. These games, they’re like movies, they take a long time to develop. They would come in periodically and show me some monsters they designed or the latest special effects… but the game has been very slowly developing and now it’s coming out in January, I believe. I’ll be as excited as anybody else to see it.”
