People have been wondering how to favorite items in Terraria, because by marking an item as a favorite, it will prevent you from accidentally removing it from your inventory. Further, favorite items cannot be quick stacked, quick trashed, thrown, or deposited until the favorite status has been removed. Here’s how to do it!
Terraria Favorite Items | PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch
Before anything else, you should know that you can only technically “favorite” an item in Terraria for the PC and Mac. There is a similar, but different mechanic for consoles which we will cover in a bit! But first, in order to favorite an item in Terraria on Mac and PC, do the following:
- Open your inventory
- Hold Alt and click the item
- When you do, a border will appear around the item. It is now a favorite!
Keep in mind, however, that if you put a favorite item into your equipment slots then put it back into your inventory, the favorite status will be removed and you will have to Alt. click once more to favorite it.
Console Controls: D-Pad Hotbar
This is important to keep in mind: Binding an item to your D-Pad is NOT the same thing as marking it as a favorite. For one, console versions of the game do not have the same “quick trash” function that the computer versions do. Inventory organization is a bit more tedious because of this, but it also largely prevents accidentally removing items you want to keep.
In order to assign or bind an item to your D-Pad, and mark it as a favorite on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, simply do the following:
- Open the inventory
- Select the desired item
- Press a direction on the D-Pad
By doing so, you can immediately equip that item to the hotbar by pressing the direction button you assigned it to.
Nintendo Switch: Radial Hotbar
Unfortunately, there is no way to favorite an item in Terraria on Nintendo Switch. You will have to content yourself with the radial hotbar. To use it, hold the left bumper to pull up your buffing items or the right bumper to open the hotbar. Use the analog stick to point at the desired item and, when it is highlighted, release the button and it will be equipped.
