Is God of War Coming to PS4?

With every new console generation comes confusion about which console a new game will launch for. After its recent reveal, many players were left wondering if God of War Ragnarok will release on the PlayStation 4 as well as the PlayStation 5. The confusion has been compounded by rumors saying that it would release for PS4 as well as PC, specifically one shared through Twitter. Is there any truth to it?

Will God of War Ragnarok Release For PS4?

God of War Ragnarok PS4 Release

Unfortunately, it looks as though God of War Ragnarok won’t be coming to PlayStation 4 or PC. At time of writing, the game is only planned for release on the PlayStation 5. No word of a PC release has been mentioned by the developers.

The rumor of a God of War Ragnarok PS4 release stems from a tweet being spread by a spoof account. This account uses the real Sony Santa Monica’s Twitter icon and description to look like an official page. However, the account name is different than the company’s official page.

No press releases have mentioned God of War Ragnarok coming to the PS4, nor does the original trailer. The game appears to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. That makes sense, as Sony is banking on its customers making the jump to the PS5 sooner rather than later.

This contrasts greatly with Microsoft’s approach, in which all first-party games will be accessible on both the Series X and Xbox One. Cross-gen support is an important talking point for this generation, although its appeal will naturally wear down over time.

With luck, the real Sony Santa Monica will clear up the confusion as to whether God of War Ragnarok is coming to the PS4. Until we get any confirmation otherwise, it appears this particular rumor is entirely false. The new God of War game will only be available for PlayStation 5.
