While working at Bungie, Marcus Lehto helped to create the Halo Universe. First debuting in the 1990’s, Halo has become one biggest game franchises of all time.

After 15 years at Bungie, Lehto moved over to V1 Interactive, which closed in early 2021. The creator recently teased his next career move on Twitter, writing, “Making some pretty big decisions with my career this week. Some of you will support it, some will not. I just ask that you all join me on this next leg of journey. It’s going to be big!”

And today, Lehto’s new career move was announced. Back on Twitter, he wrote, “Hey everyone, I’m very excited to announce that I’ve joined EA as a Game Director, building a new studio in the Seattle area working on first-person games. I can’t wait to share more about what we’re creating!”

The game maker recently announced that they were opening a new studio in Seattle. Former Monolith Productions exec Kevin Stephens was tapped to lead that office. And while Lehto will also be working out of Seattle, the men will be fillign different roles.

EA also confirmed the news of Lehto’s hiring while also clarifying the different roles Lehto and Stephens will fill. A spokesperson said in a statement:

“Marcus Lehto is starting another new studio in the Seattle area. His studio will be focused on making first-person games. The other recently opened studio, led by Kevin Stephens, is focused on creating open-world action games. While they may eventually share office space, they will be two distinct studios with different focuses.”
