A new trailer for Marvel’s Midnight Suns was released at the D23 expo today that contains some rather big news. The game was once slated to come out this October. However, it was delayed a few months ago to the end of fiscal year 2022. That could’ve been any point between now and March 2023, though this trailer confirmed the new release date. Alongside that, it announced the cancellation of the game for previous-gen consoles.
No Previous-Gen Ports of Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Yes, if this new gameplay trailer is anything to go by, players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will no longer have access to Marvel’s Midnight Suns. 2K Games has yet to officially scrap them per sé. Despite this, the new trailer announced next-gen and PC release dates and nothing for the older hardware.
For those with newer systems, you’ll be able to play Marvel’s Midnight Suns on December 2, 2022. Given the potential release window was anywhere up until March of next year, fans will no doubt feel relieved at the news. Preorders are also live now, so you can snag a guaranteed copy ready for when the game releases.
However, the news is bound to be bittersweet to those struggling to get a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. With no release date for a previous-gen version of Midnight Suns, it seems increasingly likely that 2K Games has abandoned the systems. It’s becoming more common as we move towards the two-year anniversary of the new hardware. Other games like Gotham Knights have also canned previous-gen versions. In fact, we could see less and less releases on those older systems now.
That said, the new gameplay trailer proves that Marvel’s Midnight Suns is here to do something very different with the Marvel formula. Combining turn-based card combat and deep character customization, it’s an RPG the likes of which Marvel has never really put its name to. As such, it’s bound to cause quite a splash when it releases later this year.
