Originally a Japanese playing card company, Nintendo’s 8-Bit Entertainment System first became available in the US market in 1985. It was a smash hit as were subsequent releases like the Super Nintendo, the Gameboy, and Nintendo 64.
Most of today’s gamers grew up playing on some or all of those systems. Playing on their nostalgia, Nintendo recently announced a way for Nintendo Switch players to access some of their favorite Nintendo 64 games.
Since there is such heavy nostalgia for these games, the company is going to charge a pretty penny. The price for a subscription to this package will more than double current pricing, taking the cost from $20 annually to $50 a year.
According to the company’s website, “With your Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership, you now get access to even more benefits, including a library of Nintendo 64™ games with newly added online play for up to 4 players, Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise (available 11/5/21), and retro SEGA Genesis games!”
There are currently 9 Nintendo 64 games available. They are:
- Dr. Mario 64
- Mario Kart 64
- Mario Tennis
