Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and stay-at-home orders, people spent a lot of time inside in 2021. And while boredom was common, there were also plenty of great games to keep them company.
Playstation had an outstanding year with critically acclaimed titles like Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yumi, Resident Evil Village, and Death’s Door, appearing on game of the year lists. But according to gamers, another title has taken the prize.
Playstation announced via their Twitter page on Monday, “Your votes are in! Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart wins PS5 Game of the Year in PlayStation’s GOTY 2021 polls. Congrats to the team at Insomniac Games for crafting an out-of-this-world adventure.”
Ratchet and Clank wasn’t the only winner announced today; there was also a winner for Playstation 4. The company revealed, “castle door creaks open* …and Resident Evil Village is voted PS4 Game of the Year! Explore the full list of winners at PS Blog.”
Resident Evil Village garnered plenty of interest before the game was even released. Much of this was due to the character of Lady Dimetrescu. The gigantic vampiric noblewoman became a significant hit on the internet and became the subject of many memes. Resident Evil took advantage of the popularity and made the vampire an essential part of their ad campaign.
And once the game hit the market, players loved it. The title also won the Ultimate Game of the Year Award at this year’s Golden Joystick Awards.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was another in a long line of hits for Insomniac Games. It was nominated in four categories at the Golden Joystick Awards, taking home the prize for Best Visual Design. The title was also nominated for six prizes at The Game Awards, including Game of the Year, but did not win any of them.
