Roblox, first created back in 2006, is one of the more unusual games in the video game world. It allows players to not only create their own games but also play games made by other gamers.
For the most part, the Roblox community is largely made up of children. So it is no surprise that Ruben Sim (real name Benjamin Robert Simon) was banned from the platform. This initial ban, which occurred a number of years ago was for using racist and homophobic slurs and posting an image or Adolf Hitler.
But Roblox hasn’t been able to enforce the ban thanks to Sim’s ability to use other gamers’ profiles and hack into the game. Now the company is taking it a step further and suing the player for $1.6 million.
According to the suit, Simon posts his gameplay on YouTube after hacking into the system. And he is able to make money from the content uploaded to YouTube and Patreon.
The company has also alleged that Sim made terroristic threats against them. Referring to a 2018 shooting at YouTube Headquarters, the gamer noted, “wait until [someone] does it to Roblox.” He has also made numerous similar statements on his Twitter feed. After a threat concerning the 2021 Roblox Developers Conference was made, there was a temporary lockdown and investigation which cost $50,000
