The Witcher 3 Enemy Upscaling - How It Works

We’ll never get tired of facing beasts as the legendary Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher 3. In fact, playing as one of the most profound from the School of Wolf may give some of us the confidence to increase the challenge and push our elite combat skills with each enemy. If you want to do that, you’ll need to turn on enemy upscaling, which increases the difficulty of enemies but also grants better rewards. Nonetheless, read on to learn how the feature works and how to enable it.

How Enemy Upscaling Works in The Witcher 3

How Enemy Upscaling Works in The Witcher 3

Essentially, enemy upscaling in The Witcher 3 makes all enemies you face equal in difficulty to your level. As a result, most basic mobs and enemies that are weaker than you that you can easily one-shot will become more difficult to kill because their skill level will be on par with yours. However, any enemy with a higher degree than you will not be adjusted. Only enemies who are less powerful than you. Though this may make for a greater challenge, in turn, it also results in better rewards.

Turning on enemy upscaling increases the level of loot enemies drop as well as the experience you gain from them. So, while enemies present a greater challenge, they will also reward you with more loot and experience to help you level up faster. That’s why it’s enticing to activate the feature so when you backtrack to low-level areas when you’re a higher level, they won’t be a walk in the park and waste of time in terms of loot.

To turn on enemy upscaling, from the Start Menu go to Options. Then scroll down to Gameplay, in this tab will be an option to turn enemy upscaling on or off. You can do this at any point in your playthrough. So, it’s at least worth testing out the feature. If you don’t like it, you can simply turn it off at any point.
