Microsoft has spent the month celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of the Xbox. And they surprised gamers on Monday by partially releasing the hotly anticipated Halo: Infinite.
While the full game will be available on December 9th, Microsoft dropped the multiplayer version yesterday. And users were more than happy to get their hands on it. So happy, in fact, that the game set a new streaming record.
Benji Sales noted on Twitter, “Halo Infinite is now the first ever Xbox Studios Game to pass 200k+ concurrent players on Steam and set the all-time record Top 5 1. Halo Infinite – 201,044 (and growing) 2. Halo MCC – 161,024 3. Forza Horizon 5 – 81,096 4. Age of Empires IV – 73,928 5. Sea of Thieves – 66,906.”
Gamers initially had some issues with blue screens when attempting to download the game. Those issues were soon fixed, though, and many users were able to get their first taste of the game.
Reviews for the version of the game, were mostly positive. Gamers seemed to really enjoy the general game play. There was high praise for the graphics and the general feel of the game. Some did complain about the pace of the game, calling it a bit of a slog.
At the end of the day, though, the reactions have been much more positive for Halo: Infinite than they have been for competing game Battlefield 2042. And, of course, with an early release of the title, developers still have the opportunity to make changes.
