Ghostbusters, a cherished property from the 1980s, has been having a bit of a moment over the last 5 years or so. 2016 saw a full reboot of the film with Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristin Wiig, and Kate McKinnon starring. And 2021 saw a movie starring Paul Rudd make more of a callback to the original film.

And there’s obviously plenty of nostalgic interest in a Ghostbusters video game using today’s technology to really make something special. And according to reports, there are plans in the works to do just that.

It had long been rumored that Illfonic, a gaming studio known for their Friday the 13th game, was working on a title based on the supernatural property. And now that news has seemingly been confirmed by Ernie Hudson, who played Winston Zeddemore in the original film.

During a recent fan fest panel, Hudson was asked about future games. He told the audience, “I just got an e-mail, because we’re doing another video game. They’re scheduling it now to do the recording, and I’m not too sure who’s going to do it. I know me and Danny (Dan Ackroyd), I think. I’m not sure about Billy (Bill Murray) will do anything on it. So there will be another video game. When they bring it out, I don’t know, but it’s definitely happening,”

Hudson then followed, “They’ve been sending me prototypes of the character to get the image right, which they seem to have a hard time somehow creating my image. It’s so weird to me that they can get Bill Murray, and Dan Aykroyd, and Harold Ramis to look exactly like they look, but I end up looking like Eddie Murphy or somebody.”

Obviously, there is plenty about the game that we don’t know yet. But the news is very exciting for both gamers who were born in the ’70s and ’80s and people who have learned about Ghostbusters from subsequent films.
