Baldur’s Gate 3, the next game in the immensely popular Baldur’s Gate series, has been in Early Access since October 6, 2020. Fans have enjoyed getting a sneak peek at the game as it moves through development. While it is in a fairly playable state, it has only teased players who are pining for the full game to release. Thanks to a recent interview with the developers, we might be closer to knowing just when that will be.

PCGamesN recently interviewed Swen Vincke, the head of Larian Studios, who teased that “we’re going to release it when it’s ready.” He went on to add that the game would launch “probably not this year, but it’s not going to be much later than that.”

“I mean, the main goal here is quality: getting the game at the quality level that it needs to be,” Vincke said. “That said, we do think we still need a year to do that. But it will be the last year. We’re getting to the end of it.” Exciting news for fans who have waited for a long time for a new mainline entry into the series.

While it sounds like we definitely won’t get a 2022 release date for Baldur’s Gate 3, it looks like fans of the series will be able to dive into the game’s expansive world sometime in 2023. With that said, it is not a sure bet. With many games suffering from delays in recent years, don’t get your hopes too high.

In the meantime, the game is available to play in Early Access if you’re curious about what to expect.
