Nintendo has announced that Breath of the Wild 2 is delayed until Spring 2023. Initially planned for a 2022 launch, series producer Eiji Aonuma discussed the delay this morning.
“We previously announced that we were aiming for a 2022 release for [Breath of the Wild 2],” Aonuma says in the video. “However, we have decided to extend our development time for a bit and change the release to Spring 2023. For those of you who have been looking forward to a release this year, we apologize.”
No new details were announced for Breath of the Wild 2. The second half of the video details previously announced during Nintendo Directs.
Without the highly anticipated Zelda sequel, Nintendo’s 2022 release calendar loses a heavy hitter. Still, the company has plenty of games to look forward to later this year. Mario Strikers: Battle League is coming this June, and the next entry in the Xenoblade Chronicles franchise will be later this year. In the near term, Nintendo Switch Sports releases next month, April 29th.
