Call of Duty: Vanguard is utilizing technology that should help reduce needed hard drive space by anywhere from 30% to 50%.

While the practice of shuffling popular new titles into rotation with our favorite mainstays has become a tradition among us gamers, it’s a practice that can be annoying and sometimes a little bit time-consuming.

On Tuesday afternoon the official Call of Duty Twitter account sent out a tweet claiming new on-demand texture streaming tech is expected to reduce the need for bloated hard drive space requirements.

While we are certainly excited to see this type of technology become more readily available there is still a pretty big concern since on-demand texture streaming requires a persistent internet connection.

Giving up some bandwidth may be worth the hard drive savings for many gamers. Call of Duty’s 2020 Black Ops Cold War required 130GB on PS5 and Xbox Series X at the time of launch.

This isn’t the first time on-demand texture streaming has been utilized. Warzone announced in April 2021 that it would provide the technology to offer higher resolution output without the need for as much on-device storage.

Now we just have to sit back and wait to see the initial release file size for Call of Duty: Vanguard.
