Cyberpunk 2077 Now Has An Official Modding Tool

CD Projekt Red makes games on a massive scale. That approach leaves a lot of room for alterations, and it would be helpful to have a tool to make modding easier. For their latest title Cyberpunk 2077, the team has designed their own official modding tool. It aims to make the process much easier for novice and experienced modders, while also giving them plenty of options in terms of what they can adjust. Considering how much the community has already made for the game, this will likely open the door for many more mods.

Cyberpunk 2077 Modding Tool: REDmod

The new modding tool is being classified as DLC. As explained by The Tech Game, it responds to a command line called “REDmod” as a way to use the tool and identify which mods are compatible. The tool will give players a range of elements to interact with, including customizable sounds and animations. For those fearing that current mods may not be compatible with the new tool in place, don’t worry. The developers assure players that REDmod will not block incompatible mods. Instead, it just won’t list them prominently.

Since Cyberpunk 2077 launched in 2020, it was panned for numerous technical and gameplay issues. However, the community was passionate about saving the game and so started creating mods for it. In addition to those that add new content and mechanics, some of the most popular and used mods are those that fix the game’s performance. Many are quite literally named for what they fix, such as Better Vehicle Handling and Better Minimap. These were made possible by the overarching mods Cyber Engine Tweaks and CP77 Tools which made the others possible. With the creation of REDmod, it’s clear that CD Projekt Red wants to encourage community creativity and innovation.

Cyberpunk 2077 has undergone a lot of tweaking and transformation since its launch. Thankfully, much has improved in terms of content and gameplay thanks to its dedicated players. Now that the developers have provided the REDmod modding tool, a surge of new mods may be on the way.
