Exploding Kittens Is Coming To Netflix Games

Netflix has always been for streaming films and TV shows, but it’s recently been trying to move more towards gaming. Titles such as Trivia Quest and Cat Burglar boast an interactive experience on par with the games found on old DVDs. Netflix is no stranger to game-related shows and has experienced both extreme failure and success in The Cuphead Show and Arcane respectively. The latest announcement covers one of their most ambitious projects to date, as Netflix aims to create an interactive TV series based on a popular card game and the most successful Kickstarter project of all time, Exploding Kittens. It is currently scheduled to debut in 2023.

Though the details are still being revealed, the Exploding Kittens show has already generated a lot of attention. This is due to the game’s continuing popularity and actors such as Tom Ellis and Lucy Liu. It’s an animated show that follows the story of two large cats who are in fact God and the Devil. As for the plot, both been sent to Earth for a currently unknown reason.

This works in tandem with the newest Exploding Kittens mobile game scheduled to hit Netflix Games in May. Anyone with a Netflix subscription will be able to play the game for free through the Netflix app. Much like the physical game and previous mobile game (also available on Switch), this is a multiplayer card game. Players will play online or locally with the goal of being the last player standing by avoiding the exploding kittens.

The Exploding Kittens card game was released in 2015. Originally created by the artistic team of Elan Lee, Matthew Inman, and Shane Small, it was an indie project that was funded entirely on Kickstarter, raising over $8.7 million against a $10,000 goal. Since then, the game has continued to grow by adding new expansions and creating a digital version. Now, it has expanded into the competitive world of television with Netflix at the helm.
