Fallout 5 – Will It Ever Happen?

Did Fallout 76 ruin any chances of Fallout 5 being made?

It’s been three years since Fallout 76 came out, leaving a sour taste in gamers’ mouths. The online open-world multi-player game was dead on arrival with both fans and critics. On Metacritic, the game received a timid score of 52/100, with IGN remarking:

“In an effort to do everything, Fallout 76 fails to do any of it well enough to form an identity. Its multiplayer mindset robs its quests of all the moral decisionmaking that makes the series great, and all that’s left is a buggy mess of systemic designs that never seems to work together and regularly contradicts itself.”

Fallout 76 wasn’t a direct sequel to 2015’s Fallout 4, thankfully, and now fans are wondering if Fallout 5 might help ease their collective pain. You know, if it ever comes out.

Todd Howard, a game designer, director, and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, recently sat down with IGN Unfiltered to clear the air:

“I don’t see… Look, Fallout’s really part of our DNA here. We’ve worked with other people from time to time – I can’t say say what’s gonna happen. You know, we have a one-pager on Fallout 5, what we want to do.”

A “one-pager,” in industry terms, is simply an official document that includes a broad concept for what a game could be.

Currently, Bethesda is only committed to two games, per Howard: Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6.

Sorry Fallout fans, but the future of the franchise looks pretty far off.
