Final Fantasy XVI has a release date of June 22nd for the PlayStation 5. Square Enix is sticking to that date no matter what.

“I know Final Fantasy games can get delayed at the last minute,” said producer Naoki Yoshida at a press event in New York earlier this month. “Unless a meteor falls on Japan, there will be no delay.”

Initially announced in 2020, Final Fantasy XVI has been a long time coming. However, after delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it entered the final stages of development last year

The star of Final Fantasy XVI is the newest Final Fantasy protagonist, Clive Rosfield. He is the firstborn son of the Archduke of Rosaria. He will accompany his brother Joshua Rosfield and adopted sister, Jill Warrick.

When the game launches on June 22nd, it will be a PS5 exclusive for the rest of 2023. After that, though, things are uncertain. There’s currently no word on a release for Xbox Series X|S. As for a PC version, which has been confirmed, that may take longer.

“First of all, it is true that Final Fantasy XVI is a six-month limited-time exclusive on the PS5 platform,” Yoshida told the Japanese PlayStation Blog. “However, it is a completely different story that the PC version will be released in half a year. I will make it clear, but the PC version will not come out in half a year. This is because we spent a lot of time and money optimizing the PS5 platform to deliver the best gaming experience. Of course, I would like to release a PC version at some point so that everyone can play as many games as possible.”
