Square Enix promised we’d see news this month, and they delivered. During today’s Final Fantasy VII stream, we got some updates regarding the future of Final Fantasy VII titles in development.

The long-awaited part two of the FFVII remake is due in the winter of 2023. The entire remake is still planned for a trilogy, so this will be the second of three games. Subtitled “Rebirth,” it is a PlayStation 5 exclusive. The title of the third game in the Final Fantasy VII trilogy is still unknown.

If you missed out on the PlayStation release for the FFVII remake, the Intergrade edition is available today on Steam and Steam Deck.

In related news, Crisis Core – Final Fantasy VII is returning to all consoles. Subtitled “Reunion,” Crisis Core releases this winter on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Steam. Formerly a PlayStation Portable exclusive, the game takes place seven years before the events of FFVII and stars Zack Fair.

The new version of Crisis Core promises enhanced HD graphics, updates to the game’s 3D models, voiceovers, and new musical arrangements. It does not have the same graphical overhaul that the FFVII remake does.

Between today’s Final Fantasy VII news and the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XVI, it’s a good time to be a fan of Final Fantasy. The next two years should see the franchise deliver plenty of content.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first FFVII Remake. The added content is enjoyable, albeit stretched thin at times, and the combat is an absolute blast. That winter 2023 release is going to be a long, long wait, though.
