How to Tailslide in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2

Now that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 has finally returned the series to current-gen platforms, many older players have jumped in for the first time in decades. However, it’s been so long that players might not remember how to perform some of their go-to tricks. One such trick is the Tailslide, a type of grind trick that can be very useful in combos. Here’s how to do a Tailslide on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of the new remaster.

The Tailslide isn’t a tricky a move to master. As such, it’s great go-to move, especially as part of larger combos with manuals and a variety of other grinds such as the Overcrook and Bluntslide. Here’s how to perform a Tailslide in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 for each of the major platforms:

  • Xbox One: Hold Y, Press Right on the D-Pad/Stick, Release Y
  • PlayStation 4: Hold Triangle, Press Right on the D-Pad/Stick, Release Triangle
  • PC: Hold the Up Arrow key, Press the D key, Release the Up Arrow key

This is an essential move to know for anyone hoping to 100% the game. In the Venice Beach map, originally from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2, one of the goals asks players to Tailslide over the Venice Ledge, a set of stairs at the back of the map.

Anyone who watches skateboarding videos or skates themselves are most likely familiar with this grind trick. It involves sliding across a rail using the back end of the skateboard — the end their back foot is on, or the “tail” of the board. Approaching a rail head-on results in a frontside Tailslide, while approaching from the back results in a backside Tailslide. Doing the latter while skating switch results in the infamous switch side backside Tailslide, or SSBTS.
