Nintendo first released the first Legend of Zelda game in 1986. Since that day 36 years ago, gamers have obsessively played the title, which has spawned 18 sequels.

The latest of these releases was Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which debuted in 2017. With the game nearly five years old, gamers have finished it multiple times. And looking for a new challenge, a community of players has turned to glitches.

There is now a deep Breath of Wild community dedicated to finishing and manipulating the game’s glitches. And one of the white whales for the community has become recovering impossible items. These items were initially drawn into the game but served no function as they were likely forgotten about.

A speedrunner named Luke Steelman, who goes by LegendofLinkk while online, has become the first player to recover one of these impossible items; an arrow. The arrow was first discovered close to the Daqo Chisay Shrine in Gerudo Town in April of 2021.

Steelman has laid out his nine months of trying to acquire the arrow in a new video. Kotaku breaks down his efforts:

“After jumping for minutes on end, Steelman whipped out his overstocked bomb arrows to blow himself up. This seemed to give him so much airtime, he actually ends up going above and beyond the arrow! Nearly 20 minutes of glitches later, with 10 of them filled with so many explosions that would probably make Michael Bay jealous, Steelman slowly descended to grab the impossible shock arrow.”
