Can You Unlock More Characters in Mario Party Superstars

Mario Party Superstars has arrived, and it’s a lot of fun with its throwback boards and minigames newly remastered for the Nintendo Switch. More of the recent installments have had many unlockable rewards to collect as you played through, including characters. So does this one follow suit in that regard? Read on to find out!

Can You Unlock More Characters in Mario Party Superstars?

While there are many things to unlock as you play through Mario Party Superstars, characters are not among them. You begin the game with the entire roster at your disposal. The total available list of characters includes:

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Peach
  • Daisy
  • Wario
  • Waluigi
  • Yoshi
  • Rosalina
  • Donkey Kong
  • Birdo

Unless there is some unannounced DLC waiting to be revealed in the future, there are no additional characters planned to be added to Mario Party Superstars. It is also worth noting there are no gameplay or ability differences between the characters. This is a stark departure from the previous Super Mario Party, as it had both unlockable characters and a unique die for each character, as well as allies that could be called upon to tack onto your total roll. This provided some variety and a sense of risk that is unfortunately missing from this installment.

However, this doesn’t mean there’s a lack of worthwhile rewards to be unlocked as you play. You can increase your Mario Party Level as you play through sessions and meet certain objectives in other areas of the game. You can earn coins based on how many stars you earn during playthroughs, or by completing challenges at Mt. Minigames. With these coins, you can buy new Stickers, Card Designs, unlock additional Encyclopedia pages and Music that can be played at the Data House. Classic versions of Stage Music can also be unlocked by finishing a game on their respective board. Bear in mind, there are certain rewards that can only be purchased once you reach a high enough Mario Party Level.
