Petrified Wood is among the many raw crafting materials that Builders can gather in My Time at Sandrock. The open-world farming simulator allows its players to build several items with the unique wood, even though no one in town seems to sell any. Heidi won’t be putting any on her shelves at the Construction Junction Shop; not even By The Stairs (owned by Arvio, with furniture supplied by Rian) sells Petrified Wood. Builders have to find their pieces of the wood in question.

Luckily, Builders won’t have much trouble searching for the fossilized wood in My Time at Sandrock. It plays a role in one of the game’s main missions, though the wood is used for a few recipes. It might take some time before Builders can find some Petrified Wood, yet they won’t need to venture far. At Sandrock, anything is possible with the mindset of a resourceful Builder.

How to Get the Petrified Wood in My Time at Sandrock

My Time at Sandrock players can obtain Petrified Wood by chopping down/logging Large Deadwood trees in the Eufaula Desert. Players must use an Iron Axe to break apart a Large Deadwood tree. Doing so will yield the player Dew, Hard Wood, and Petrified Wood from the tree’s trunk. The stump will produce more Petrified Wood and Hard Wood, yet Amber replaces the Dew. Normal-sized Deadwood trees will not suffice for the Builder and their needs.

The Large Deadwood trees are a part of the Eufaula Desert, and players can quickly access the dry land by crossing the Shonash Canyon Bridge, west of Sandrock. However, the bridge needs some repairs during the Shonash Canyon plotline. This arc involves a few main missions, specifically the “In Trusses We Trust,” where the bridge is reconstructed. The bridge provides Builders access to the western areas of Sandrock. It all plays together naturally as players progress through the narrative.

Expert Tip

The Eufaula Desert is vast and open, with lengthy distances that are best approached with a mount. Be sure to enter the area with your trustworthy stead and camel, for the Large Deadwood trees are incredibly far apart.

Using Petrified Wood

Petrified Wood is used for a few recipes in My Time at Sandrock. After logging Large Deadwood and collecting the desired fossilized wood, players can craft themselves the following items: Petrified Wooden Board, Petrified Wooden Stick, Steel Spear, and Super Shock Shield. The latter, mainly, is unique to the storyline, with one Bronco the Kid requesting the player to get one for them. Namely, they refer to it as an “sss” during the “Buckin’ Bronco” mission. The mission requires several actions from the player, though Bronco is serious about the super shield.

Whether players want to help Bronco or produce some items independently, they’ll need a Civil Processor and a standard Forging Machine (both have their blueprints for the Research Center). The Civil Processor can transform pieces of Petrified Wood into wooden boards and sticks. Only three pieces are needed for the Petrified Wooden Board, while the Petrified Wooden Stick requires only two. However, approaching the Forging Machine for the spear and super shield becomes slightly more tedious since more resources are needed.

Only a few other materials are needed for the weapons. Players can construct both the spear and the super shield at a Forging Machine with the following necessaries:

  • Steel Spear – Chromium Steel Bar (x4), Petrified Wood (x5), and Wool Cloth (x5)
  • Super Shock Shield – Chromium Steel Bar (x4), Petrified Wood (x6), and Twine (x4)

The Steel Spear is pretty straightforward in terms of properties. It’s a melee weapon that boosts the player’s attacks, and it can also be upgraded to increase the output. As a side note, with other weapons that the player can easily equip, presenting the Steel Spear as a gift to Logan will yield some relationship points.

The Super Shock Shield is unique, however. It’s an attack and defense weapon and plays a vital role in the “Buckin’ Bronco” mission. It’s said to be capable of blocking lightning attacks, though this entirely rests on the curiosity of the Builder.

Finally, Petrified Wood comes from dead wood, meaning not everyone in Sandrock will appreciate it as a gift. Only a few can tolerate it, and Rain is the only one in town who genuinely likes it. This is probably due to his occupation as a carpenter (birthed by his mom’s determination to get him into woodworking), though he doesn’t fancy scraps as much. With a value of only 14 Gols, building a few items with the Petrified Wood is best.
