New World Gold Exploit Forces Developer to Disable ‘all Forms of Wealth Transfer’

Amazon’s smash hit New World became the victim of an exploit this week and the exploit forced Amazon Game Studios to disable “all forms of wealth transfer.”

The exploit allowed players to send images in the game’s chat box which would then kick other plays and duplicate gold.

An update fixed the exploit but the damage was already done. Amazon said it was suspending further transfers in order to fix the game’s economy.

A community manager for New Work wrote a post on the game’s forum:

Hi all,

We are aware of a possible gold duplication exploit that has been circling and we are temporarily disabling all forms of wealth transfer between players (ie. sending currency, guild treasury, trading post, player to player trading).

Any player that has engaged in the use of this exploit will be actioned against.

Once the gold duplication exploit has been investigated and we are ready to turn on wealth transfer again, we will update this post.

Thank you for your understanding.

It’s not clear how long the exploit has been around. The issue was discovered over the weekend and quickly dealt with, at last on the surface.
