Paper Mario, which was revealed to be one of the future additions for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, is coming on December 10. No other games have a release date at this time despite the fact that several were announced earlier this year.

Originally released in Japan on August 11, 2000, and in North America on February 5, 2001, Paper Mario is the debut release for the popular franchise. It was developed by Intelligent Systems, also known for its work on the Fire Emblem games. Using a paper aesthetic, characters from the Mario universe traverse in a turn-based RPG setting. The series is known for its cast of enjoyable sidekick characters and humor.

The best game, arguably in the franchise, was Gamecube’s Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. The most recent entry in the series was Paper Mario: The Origami King for the Nintendo Switch. It was released back on July 17th, 2020.

This is the first of several planned future releases for the Nintendo 64 system on Nintendo Switch Online. Paper Mario will eventually be joined by the following games:

  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Pokemon Snap
  • Mario Golf
  • F-Zero X
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
  • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

A release date was not given for any of the previously mentioned titles.

To say that fans aren’t too happy about the (presumed) slow drip of releases one at a time is a bit of an understatement. While this is a great title, no doubt, people are left wondering why are we mpt getting more games sooner.

We’ll see what’s next for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion pack. Whether it’s finally released the already announced games or planning a slew of future anticipated titles, there’s plenty more N64 love available for the Switch.
