Forza Horizon 5 was recently released in early November. The game was a massive success for Microsoft, and earned a perfect rating from IGN. The title was also a hit commercially with over 10 million players during the first week of release.

In order to keep up with their competitor, Sony has pulled out all the stops for their upcoming Gran Turismo 7. The company worked with Porsche who specially designed a car specifically for the game.

Deniz Keskin, the director of brand management and partnerships at Porsche said of the development:

“We approached it really like a normal vehicle project, which is the typical Porsche way to do that. It’s kind of a concept car for perhaps the year 2030. So it has a futuristic feel to it. But we have tried to be realistic in the sense we have not put anything on the car that is not feasible. It’s a fully electric car. It’s also pretty compact and nimble.”

The creation of the car is beneficial to both companies. Sony, of course, gets a really cool vehicle for their game that was designed exclusively for them. And for the automaker, the project helps to get their designers thinking about features that could be added to vehicles in the future.

Michael Mauer, Porsche’s VP of Style explained the partnership from the manufacturer’s perspective noting, “A vehicle designed purely for the virtual world opens up exciting possibilities for us that are otherwise heavily regimented in a regular design process for a series production car. Projects such as the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo are particularly valuable for us in the creative process. Further developing our clearly defined Porsche Design DNA and exchanging with designers from other industries is an important part of our work.”

Gran Turismo 7 is set to debut on March 4th, 2022. The game will be available on Playstation 4 and Playstation 5.
