It seems like the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is stuck in the… sands of time. Ubisoft has confirmed that the game is once again delayed until the next year.

Things started when Wario64 saw that you could no longer pre-order Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake on GameStop’s website.

GameStop was not the first to act on this. Per Wario64, Amazon stopped taking pre-orders on the game on May 24th. IGN was able to obtain a statement from Ubisoft regarding the status of The Sands of Time Remake:

The development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will now be led by Ubisoft Montreal. We’re proud of the work achieved by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learnings as the new team will continue the work to deliver a great remake.

As a consequence, we are no longer targeting a FY23 release anymore and the game has been delisted. If players wish to cancel their preorder they are invited to contact their retailer. They will be updated on the project as the development is moving along.

Ubisoft originally announced the remake in 2020. Initially, it was targeted for a release on January 21st, 2021. That was over a year ago, and we’re still waiting.

Sands of Time Remake Reveal Trailer

Widely regarded as one of the greatest games of all time, The Sands of Time Remake brings the (at the time) radical video game sequel to modern audiences. Before the original release of Sands of Time, the Prince of Persia franchise was a niche with a cult following at best. After 2003, it became a household name while also kicking off a trilogy that included 2004’s Warrior Within and 2005’s The Two Thrones.

Being a beloved game here’s to hoping Ubisoft takes its time with The Sands of Time Remake. Its eventual release can’t be worst than the movie, right?
