One of the most unique weapons in Skyrim is also one of the most elusive. The Sword of Jyggalag appears rather late through the adventure, and almost immediately after finding it, you’ll be asked to give it away. The two-handed Greatsword of the Daedric Prince of Order packs a mean swing, but does that mean it’s worth keeping? What do you stand to earn if you give it away? Most importantly, if you do give the blade to Staada, is there any way to get it back?
Should You Keep the Sword of Jyggalag in Skyrim?
After retrieving the Sword of Jyggalag from the Solitude Sewers during the Restoring Order quest, you’ll be sent on a mission to meet Staada. The interaction here is quite simple: you’ll have to make a decision. You can choose to either give the sword to Staada, give her the Sheogorath-Shaped Amber, or keep both items for yourself.
If you really want to keep the sword, choose to hand over nothing. Staada will become hostile, but that’s not really unexpected. However, choosing to keep both items means you will miss out on the chance to earn a unique helmet.
If you give away the Sword of Jyggalag, Staada will give you the Golden Saint Helmet in exchange. What’s more, the Sheogorath-Shaped Amber you keep can be used to craft the Conjure Staada Spell Tome. Choosing to give away the sword means you won’t be attacked, and you’ll gain access to two unique items.
Naturally, if you give away the Amber, you’ll get the helmet and get to keep the sword. But that’s a bit of a bum deal, and here’s why.
The Sword of Jyggalag is nothing special; it doesn’t have any unique enchantments or attack patterns. Furthermore, after it’s been given away, you can still make a replica of the sword at the Replica Station. It won’t be the original, but it serves for display purposes — which is about all the original weapon is good for anyway.
The Amber, on the other hand, can be used to learn a spell to summon Staada whenever you like. Without the Amber, you’ll never be able craft the item needed to learn the spell.
In summary, you can’t get the Golden Saint Helmet without giving Staada something, and the sword ultimately isn’t as valuable as a unique conjuration spell.
With those facts in mind, it’s an easy decision. It’s best to give the Sword of Jyggalag to Staada. You’ll get to keep the valuable Amber, receive the Golden Saint Helmet, and be able to craft a practically identical copy of the sword afterward. Sure, it won’t be the original, but who’s to say the original didn’t disappear back on the Shivering Isles?
