Original story: Frost Giant Studios, a team of real-time strategy veterans founded by Tim Morten and Tim Campbell, revealed their first game: Stormgate.
The debut trailer was showcased during the Summer Game Fest. It will enter beta in 2023 and is available to wishlist on Steam.
Tim Morten spoke to Geoff on the Game Fest stage to share some details on the game. He unveiled the first two factions: the human resistance and the infernal hosts, “demon-like monsters from another world.” More factions for Stormgate will be announced in the future.
Gameplay-wise, Morten mentioned that “we are very consciously trying to stay true to what players already love about RTS. Where we’re really trying to push the genre and be innovative is approachability.”
Stormgate will be free-to-play and not pay-to-win or have NFTs, Morten told Keighley. A press release for the game doubles down on this:
“Stormgate is free-to-play so that everyone can enjoy the fun of RTS. Support the development of additional optional content that you enjoy, without ever paying to remove nuisances or gain an advantage.”
A desire to be more social with gameplay was also mentioned, featuring a co-op campaign and 3v3 PVP multiplayer. A built-in tournament system will support 1v1 multiplayer with a ladder system, the ability to set up your own tournaments, and more.
Given our love for Blizzard RTS games, it’s no surprise that we’re excited for Stormgate. We’ll share more news as it develops.
