What to Expect from the Nintendo Direct on September 13th

Nintendo announced this morning on Twitter that they will be hosting a Nintendo Direct. The live stream begins on Tuesday, September 13th, at 7:00 AM Pacific. It will run for approximately 40 minutes and focus “mostly” on Nintendo Switch games launching this winter. 

It will not, however, be livestreamed in the UK.

We’ve got you covered if you’re wondering what to expect from this Nintendo Direct.

First, here’s a look at all the currently known first-party Nintendo games that could see a release in that winter timeframe:

• Sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
• Bayonetta 3 (October 28th, 2022 release date, so technically not winter)
• Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet (Releasing November 18th and just had a new trailer)

That’s it! Games like Hollow Knight: Silksong could technically release in the Winter timeframe, but that one is expected to release Spring/Summer of 2023. Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp, which was delayed indefinitely due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, isn’t listed within the next six months on Nintendo’s press site.

So what should we expect from this Nintendo Direct?

The first and most obvious answer is news regarding the upcoming Breath of the Wild sequel. Mum’s been the word for quite some time, and a full-fledged Direct seems the perfect chance to reveal some new information.

Could this finally be the time we see Metroid-related news? The Metroid Prime trilogy ranks amongst the best games in the Metroid franchise. Rumors of a re-release for the Nintendo Switch continue to grow louder and louder.

We’d love to see the series become another Nintendo Switch port, but we also live in a world where Super Mario 3D All-Stars was announced and released out of nowhere. We had an idea it was coming, but it was still a bit of a shock. Many hope this Nintendo Direct will also feature more Legend of Zelda HD ports on the Nintendo Switch, such as Windwaker and Twilight Princess.

Don’t be surprised to see more announcements of upcoming games for the Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis libraries on Nintendo Switch Online.

Before we know it, it’ll be time for more Mario Kart DLC tracks, so those could also be on the docket.

Other than that? Honestly, who knows; I’d love to see more on Sports Story, Metroid Prime 4, and that GoldenEye 007 rumor.
