A Plague Tale: Requiem Releases New Gameplay Footage & Street Date

Focus Entertainment announced Thursday morning that A Plague Tale: Requiem will officially launch on October 18 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and a Cloud Version on Nintendo Switch.

Requiem is a sequel to the 2019 sleeper hit A Plague Tale: Innocence, an adventure/horror/stealth hybrid set in 14th-century France during the Hundred Years’ War. As Amicia de Rune, a 15-year-old French noble, you’re asked to protect your younger brother Hugo from English soldiers, the French Inquisition, and a mysterious horde of black rats that devours everything it touches.

In Requiem, set six months later, Amicia and Hugo have left France in an attempt to start a new life somewhere else. When the rats suddenly reappear, Amicia ends up in a race to find a mysterious island that may hold a cure for the plague.

(I’m being vague on purpose. Requiem is a direct sequel to Innocence, and all the official plot summaries I’ve seen of Requiem effectively spoil Innocence‘s central twist. Go play Innocence.)

As before, you spend a lot of Requiem outnumbered and overpowered, pursued by armored soldiers and inquisitors. You have to use stealth, trickery, alchemical tricks, and the rats to even the odds, as well as the occasional bit of direct violence with Amicia’s crossbow and knife. That, in turn, creates a new conflict: Amicia vs. her ever-increasing personal body count.

The release date reveal came along with opening pre-orders for the game; uploading a new 12-minute gameplay trailer; and revealing that Requiem‘s developer Asobo is working with NVIDIA to add specialized graphics tech to the game, including ray-tracing and DLSS.

Fans can also pre-order a coffee-table book, The Heart of A Plague Tale, that covers the game’s creation, and a Collector’s Edition of Innocence ($189.99) that includes a custom cover, a 21cm (8.26 inches) resin statue of Amicia and Hugo, two tracks from the game’s OST on vinyl, three lithographs, and a metal reproduction of Hugo’s feather brooch.
