According to leaks and collaborative reporting, the next entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The game is set to release between April and June 2023 and take the series back to its roots. Since 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins, the franchise has included gameplay mechanics heavily inspired by open-world RPGs.

YouTuber j0nathan reported the exclusive news for the upcoming sequel’s information. The game will take place in Baghdad between 860 and 870. It will feature the Anarchy in Samarra that takes place at that time in history.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will star Basim in his youth. Basim will be a thief until he arrives at the Hidden Ones. Gameplay wise, Mirage will feature a back-to-basics approach. The RPG elements from recent titles will be removed, such as dialogue choices, leveling system, and gender options. The first Assassin’s Creed game will serve as a strong point of inspiration and reference.

In addition, j0nathan mentions that Ubisoft is also working on a remake of the original Assassin’s Creed game. It will be based on the work of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, with many of the game’s assets being reused.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier confirmed that parts of the leak are true. “A personal familiar tells me parts of this new Assassin’s Creed leak are true,” he says in a Tweet, “such as the name and other stuff Bloomberg has already reported: spring 23, Baghdad, back to AC basics.”

Schreier also mentions certain parts of the Assassin’s Creed Mirage leak are false, such as the game featuring multiple cities to explore.

Industry leaker Jeff Grubb chimed in, saying that some of the news also lines up from what he’s heard.

Ubisoft is preparing a Ubisoft Forward event on September 10th. We’ll likely learn more about Assassin’s Mirage at that time. For now, we’ll sit and wait until we get official confirmation.
