Worried that your choice for Eivor is wrong? Thinking that you might not have the best Eivor for romances? Well, don’t you dare worry because if you want to change gender in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, it doesn’t take too much effort. The Animus is quite flexible, as it turns out!
How to Change Gender in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
In order to change gender in Valhalla, you need to simply head to the pause menu and go to the Inventory screen. Press up on the d-pad and select “Change Eivor’s Apperance”. You will now have your choice between the three genders you had at the start of the game: Female, Male, or Animus. This swap has no cost, no in-game penalties, nothing! And you can do it in every situation where you’re able to pause (basically meaning you’re not able to do so in cutscenes).
There are a couple of benefits to changing your gender in Valhalla. Male and female Eivor might be obvious due to the romance options, but… “Let the Animus Choose”? What’s that? Well, that means you’ll play as both male and female Eivor. But, the game will automatically swap you at specific parts of the story. This includes swapping to allow Eivor to take on relationships that are gender-locked, or when the acting chops of Eivor’s (awesome) voice actor shines one way or the other. The gender of Eivor also does nothing to the “present-day” story of Layla, so if you’re worried about that, worry no longer!
The gender change does not require any real-world money or in-game resources. Do it whenever you like! The Animus option offers a “best of both worlds” scenario, which is what I like the most. It’s certainly the lowest effort if you don’t want to swap through menus in order to handle the romance options! Otherwise, you aren’t going to be hampered if you really want to see Eivor’s relationships bloom in the best way possible.
That being said, it’s not too much of a big deal if you get in a relationship for female Eivor and then swap to Male. You’ll just need to swap back in order to continue quests or listen to dialogue that pertains to that relationship. Nothing too bad! Though you are safe to assume that both Eivors prefer characters of the other sex.
