Battlefield 2042 Season 1 Won’t Launch Until March 2022 per Dataminer

EA Blames Battlefield 2042 Disappointment on Halo Infinite and COVID-19

For those of you that are toughing out Battlefield 2042’s messy launch, I’ve got some bad news for you. Season 1 will most likely not launch until March of 2022.

We already expected Season 1 of Battlefield 2042 to not make an appearance until next year. “In our first year of live service, we will deliver four Seasons,” Electronic Arts said in a blog post. “Expect more details early next year.”

According to Dataminer temporyal on Twitter, early next year is going to be March. That’s 12 weeks from the time this article was published.

For comparison’s sake, Call of Duty: Vanguard* Season One launched recently. Their website is not shy about this, either. Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer also had their Season One launch before the campaign even released, during the pre-release open beta. Battlefield 2042’s competitors seem to be running smoothly.

That’s not to say things at development at DICE were not without its fair share of hiccups. Battlefield Insider Tom Henderson goes over what happened during a 30 minute YouTube video on his channel. Given the tumultuous development timeline and the current holiday break, it makes sense as to why we’re not going to see the first season of Battlefield 2042 until Spring.

While Battlefield 2042 enjoyed some critical success from reviews, fans and gamers have had the opposite reaction. This comes at a time where the future of Battlefield appears to be at a crossroads; Oskar Gabrielson, former General Manager of DICE, has left the studio and Electronic Arts entirely. Vince Zampella, the former head of Respawn Entertainment and Ripple Effect Studios, is now helming the Battlefield franchise.

*Activision/Blizzard is currently under investigation for sexual harassment, unequal pay, and misogynistic practices. In addition, workers were striking due to unfair layoffs of members of the QA team at Raven Software.
