If you haven’t heard, the Final Fantasy 7 Remake is finally out on PC. It’s no surprise considering how well the game has sold. It is one of the best Final Fantasy games, after all. With its release comes an entire slew of mods to dress your favorite character up, give Sephiroth a frightening makeover, and buffs to accessories in the game to make you unstoppable. There are also some truly hilarious and wild ones that swap out weapons for a number of things ranging from NPCs to chairs.
Currently, the game is only for purchase in the Epic Games Store, and you can find all the mods that are currently available on Nexus. Instructions for installing mods can be found on each of the mod’s pages. Here is our list of the best Final Fantasy 7 Remake mods.
Sephiroth as Ronald McDonald
Inspired by a truly epic cosplay from several years ago, this mod turns the game’s ultimate bad guy, Sephiroth, into something from a fever dream. Adorned with terrifying clown make-up and a ketchup and mustard color combo, Sephironald’s design obviously comes from the previous mascot of Mcdonald’s.
If you’ve beaten the game and want to add more humor to the game, installing this mod will do the trick. Just don’t install it if you have a phobia of clowns. You’ve been warned!
Chaerith
Final Fantasy 7 Remake does a great job at adding more layers and personality to its beloved cast of characters. Aerith in particular sees a good bit of growth as she’s feistier and more lively than ever before.
One scene fans love occurs when she wallops a bad guy over the head with a chair full-on WWE style in Don Corneo’s mansion. If you’ve ever wanted to let her live out the dream of Aerith beating up baddies with a chair, the Chaerith mod will let you.Â
Dynamic Resolution Disabler
While many gamers are happy to see Final Fantasy 7 Remake on PCs, many were let down by the lack of graphic options. At times, the game can suffer from frame rate issues. If you’re having that issue, then install the Dynamic Resolution Disabler mod.
It does exactly what it says and can increase performance tenfold. So far, it’s one of the most popular and best mods for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Purple Dress Tifa
Depending on what dialogue option you choose early in the game, Tifa will wear one of three outfits. There are mods for each of the outfits. If you loved getting Tifa’s purple dress and want her to wear it for the duration of the game, there is a mod that will let you do just that.
You’ll be able to kick ass while being super stylish. If you’re feeling really adventurous, you could have both Tifa and Cloud wearing dresses.Â
Gorgeous Dress Cloud
When the game was announced, many fans wondered whether or not the Honey Bee Inn storyline would be included. Thankfully (or not if you hate it), they stayed true to the original and Cloud gets to go full-on drag queen.
If you’re feeling his makeover, there is a mod that allows Cloud to wear one of the game’s dress options. It is hilarious and fabulous getting to see Cloud slay enemies in his dress.Â
PS1 Menu Sounds
There is something that can be said about the way sounds and music can instantly transport us back. If you’re pining for some of those feels, the PS1 Menu Sounds mod is one of the best Final Fantasy 7 Remake mods to take you back to 1997.
This mod changes the sounds for scrolling, selecting, canceling, and the ATB sounds. Live your original PlayStation fantasy!
Buffed Star Bracelet
If you’re wanting to power up your characters and be an unstoppable death machine, install the Buffed Star Bracelet mod. There are a variety of options to choose from. All give you 8 material slots, but there are a variety of different stat modifications based on exactly what you might want.
There is an option to have no additional stat buffs, and there is a number that will max out your stats and HP and MP. There are even some that will just boost your stats part way if you don’t want to be too overpowered.Â
Use Scarlet Instead of the Buster Sword
This is one of the more absurd mods out there for Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Scarlet is a pretty heinous character, and what better way to toy with her than to use her to smash enemies around.
The Scarlet over Buster Sword mod is a good dose of fun. What’s next? Marlene as Barret’s Gun Arm? Red XIII as Aerith’s staff? I for one would not mind seeing either of those.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake With the Classic PS1 Camera
As time passes, more and more mods are coming out. While this one isn’t available yet, we had to include it because it looks like it could be incredible. How epic would it be to play through a current-gen Midgar from the camera perspective of the original game? Let’s all jump on the nostalgia train!
We’re hoping some talented modder goes forward and makes it a reality. The video also helps highlight how faithful the remake is to the original design with the fixed camera angles.
