CD Projekt Red Is Working On A New Witcher Game

CD Projekt Red struck gold when it brought The Witcher universe to gaming. Now we’ve just learned that the studio is planning another one. It’s been some time since the last entry in the series. And, following the sub-par launch of the team’s original IP Cyberpunk 2077, players may feel a sense of relief that the developers are returning to their roots. In fact, this Witcher sequel is just one of the many projects planned for the series.

The Witcher 4 And More To Follow

The Witcher games are based on the series of novels started in 1986 by author Andrzej Sapkowski. However, it wasn’t until 2007 that CD Projekt Red introduced Geralt to game fans. The crowning jewel of the series is The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which released in 2015. Now the team is working on a game to continue the mainline series.

Codenamed “Polaris”, this sequel aims to be the start of a whole new trilogy in the Witcher universe. The other planned titles have the codenames, too. “Sirius” and “Canis Majoris” will be developed by The Molasses Flood, as reported by Polygon. Though the single-player RPG structure will remain present, the developers will also experiment with online multiplayer.

In terms of fantasy settings, The Witcher games brought a refreshing take to the table. Players take on the role of Geralt, a magically-altered humanoid known as a Witcher. These are twisted humans who have been specifically raised and trained to hunt monsters. While a majority of his adventures involve bounty hunts for dangerous creatures, there’s also a strong social and narrative component. Geralt has become quite renowned, and frequently gets caught up in world-changing events. Oftentimes, he’s the one man to help bring about change. Whether this means putting ancient spirits to rest or gaining the trust of various mythological beings, The Witcher always has a lot to do.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is one of the longest, richest, and most successful fantasy games still on the market, so it’s only natural that it would get a sequel. As CD Projekt Red works on three new games to add to the universe, players can look to stars to dream of the sequel “Polaris”.
