Circumcision has no affect on romance or gameplay in Cyberpunk 2077. In fact, none of the genital customization choices seem to make any difference when it comes to plot or action. The controversy around this decision stems from false rumors stating that circumcised characters are locked out of romance options.
It’s hard to figure out exactly where this rumor first appeared. However, a post made on the Cyberpunk 2077 subreddit seems to have drawn the most user comments. As with an earlier rumor post on the Cyberpunk 2077 Steam forums, most conversation about the topic dwindled down into angry comments from fans.
What’s equally hard to figure out is why anyone would believe the rumor. Circumcision itself is something of a controversial practice, and it’s not always done as a conscious choice. Even if it was, the developers at CD Projekt Red would be setting themselves up for backlash by having in-game characters mock or outright shun characters with a circumcised penis.
All of this is made even more ludicrous considering how far the developers went to make the game all-inclusive. Characters with male bodies can have female genitalia and vice-versa. NPCs even speak to the hero using gender-neutral language. It would make no sense for CD Projekt Red to make sure everyone feels accepted, only to turn around and shun circumcised characters.
Thankfully, these rumors are entirely false. Circumcision does not affect gameplay in Cyberpunk 2077, nor will it lock you out of romance options. This is just another case of false news traveling fast.
