Better yet, Daymare veterans have mere days till they can sink their teeth into Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle. Players will be able to step into the boots of protagonist Dalila Reyes as she struggles to survive in the “ominous, labyrinthine depths of the most advanced experimental research center in the United States of America.” Players will have to help Dalila face her fears “or succumb to madness.”

While no names were given, fans will apparently enjoy some “big comebacks” from characters in the original Daymare. As a prequel, even those who made a deadly fate in 1998 might yet get a reprisal in 1994.

According to Daniele Falcone, Team Coordinator at publisher Leonardo Interactive, Sandcastle will follow 1998 in its 90’s horror nostalgia. Falcone spoke highly of developer Invader Studio’s improvements to Daymare’s presentation, saying “The prequel will improve upon Daymare: 1998 in nearly every way with stunning character animations, breathtaking cutscenes.” He further promised, “[M]eticulously crafted boss encounters that require experimentation and strategy.”

An ex-government spy hired by H.A.D.E.S., Dalila will explore familiar and new locations to Daymare fans, facing all manner of the undead. Players will also receive access to a new crowd control weapon dubbed the Frost Grip that fires liquid nitrogen. Judging by the game’s trailer thumbnail, it looks like it may function like the stasis ability in Dead Space. You’ll also have access to a scanner equipped to Dalila’s arm to help solve puzzles and discover additional resources.

What’s sure to please both newcomers and Daymare veterans is the choice to play the classic difficulty or a rookie option if you’re new to survival horror. “Either way,” Invader promises, “it will be a serious challenge!” With the game’s teaser trailers hinting at a malevolent electrical threat at the heart of the matter, it certainly sounds like it. While the sci-fi aspects are intensifying, it’s looking like Daymare: 1994 is set to bring the scares to all major platforms.

Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam later this year. You can wishlist the game on Steam now.
