Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart multiplayer

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is the latest entry in the PlayStation-exclusive adventure series. It’s a success, mixing next-gen visuals with a dimension-hopping story. However, many fans are wondering whether the game allows you to enjoy the adventure with friends. Read on to find out whether Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has multiplayer.

Does Rift Apart Have Multiplayer or Couch Co-Op?

Does Rift Apart have multiplayer?
Rift Apart does not include any multiplayer modes.

Like most games in the Ratchet & Clank series, Rift Apart was designed as a single-player-only experience. That means no two-player action, no couch co-op, and no online multiplayer.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, of course, since 2016’s Ratchet & Clank for PlayStation 4 was also single-player only. However, some fans feel like the inclusion of Rivet as a playable character could’ve introduced couch co-op. It’s a series ripe for collaborative gameplay, since it features two protagonists, so it’s a shame Rift Apart doesn’t have it.

Previous games in the series have harnessed multiplayer, however. 2011’s Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One was specifically developed with co-op in mind. In that game, each level requires four players, or AI, to complete. You can play as Ratchet, Clank, Qwark, or Doctor Nefarious, to complete the story. This was the only time Insomniac Games used co-op in a mainline Ratchet & Clank game, and Rift Apart doesn’t change this. In fact, most of Insomniac Games’ previous works – like Spyro, and Marvel’s Spider-Man – are also single-player only.

There are small ways to incorporate other players, though. The extensive photo mode is ripe for sharing and discussion. As you can post them on social media and the PlayStation social menus, there is a way to share creations and discuss the game. That’s pretty much the only way to collaborate on Rift Apart, though – unless you decide to compete with friends as to who can finish the game fastest.
