Last year EA Sports NHL 23’s cover shocked everyone with not one but two cover athletes, Trevor Zegras and Sarah Nurse. This year, we are back to the standard for NHL 24, and the cover athlete has just been announced.
Cale Makar is EA Sports NHL 24 Cover Athlete!
Not only did EA Vancouver—a Canadian studio—put a Canadian on the cover, but they chose a young athlete who exemplifies what they believe is at the heart of NHL 24, the game. At a preview for the game, when speaking with CGMagazine, Creative Director Mike Inglehart and Senior Producer Chris Haluke explain what makes Cale Makar the right choice for this year’s edition.
“I think how he represents himself and how he’s competed and won at every level is something that also connects to the history of this franchise. So we felt like he was the right fit. He is obviously a player too that, even if you’re not a fan of Colorado, it’s somebody that you can’t help but appreciate in terms of what he brings to the game,” said Inglehart.
Haluke added, “We felt Cale truly embodies what we were trying to accomplish this year. If we think about ‘Gameplay is King,’ Cale is obviously an incredible athlete. He’s a champion in the NHL and on the world stage, considered arguably one of the best defensemen in the NHL, he’s physical, he’s fast. Those are some of the attributes that we are definitely trying to embody with the game that we’ve put together for NHL 24.”
Cale Makar is just 24 years old and is known as one of the best defensemen in the NHL. He debuted in the 2019-20 season, and four years later, he is on the cover of EA Sports NHL 24.
Here are just some of Cale Makar’s NHL achievements:
- High season point total of 86
- Calder Trophy Winner
- Stanley Cup Champion
- Conn Smythe Winner
- Norris Trophy Winner
- Set a record for points by a defenseman in the first four games of a postseason
- Fastest NHL Defenseman to reach 200 points
Cale Makar is an excellent example of what EA Sports wants to bring to NHL 24. Keep an eye out to find out more about the title soon!
