It didn’t take long for Game of Thrones, which debuted on HBO in 2011, to become a worldwide phenomenon. And the same things that made the show a hit; intricate plot, incredible fight scenes, and colorful characters would also be a good fit for a video game.
At least, Hidetaka Miyazaki thought so. The legendary creator of the Souls series has teamed up with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin on a title called Elden Ring. And while the characters differ from the HBO hit, the game looks like it has Martin’s fingerprints all over it.
The famous scribe recently said of his involvement in the game, “Miyazaki and his team from FromSoftware were doing groundbreaking stuff with gorgeous art, and what they wanted from me was just a bit of worldbuilding: a deep, dark, resonant world to serve as a foundation for the game they planned to create. And as it happens, I love creating worlds and writing imaginary history.”
The title was initially meant to debut in January of this year but was pushed back to February. And eager gamers are having a tough time waiting. Elden Ring is now the most-wishlisted game on Steam.
The action role-playing game took over the top spot from zombie-based game Dying Light 2. Dying Light 2 had held the top place for 12 consecutive weeks.
And while the have been few leaks about what gamers could expect in Elden Ring, they did get a sneak peek at one element recently. The character creator feature was leaked online. And gamers have been thrilled to see how in-depth it is. The impressiveness of the component is no surprise for long-time players of FromSoftware games.
