In Fallout 76, your camp functions as a home base of sorts, and by building the right camp structures you can make yourself more self-sufficient as you explore the Appalachian wasteland. One of the most essential camp structures you can build is a water purifier, but in order to do so, you must first find the requisite water purifier plan in Fallout 76.
Where to Find the Water Purifier Plan in Fallout 76
The good news is that you can find a water purifier plan pretty early on in your Fallout 76 adventures, you just have to know where to look. The first thing you’ll want to do is bring up the world map and note the large grey biome in the southwest portion. On the northeastern part of that grey-colored region is the ruined town of Charleston, and one of the major landmarks found in Charleston is the Charleston Capitol Building.
Outside you’ll find a sprawling complex with multiple entrances that lead to different parts of the building. What you want to find is the entrance to the building’s Department of Motor Vehicles on the ground level. The icon that pops up as you approach the door and will have a ‘Level 30 or higher’ warning, but you can safely ignore that since you won’t actually be fighting any enemies to get the water purifier plan.
As soon as you load into the DMV, turn to your left to spot one of the supply caches left by the Overseer. Inside the cache, you’ll find some useful items, including the Fallout 76 water purifier plan and with it in hand, you can safely fast travel back to your camp.
The water purifier plan actually allows you to build three different types of water purifiers: small, normal, and industrial. Larger types naturally require more supplies to build and more power to function, but they also produce more water over time.
All three types produce a certain amount of clean water that can be collected at regular intervals, which means you don’t have to rely as heavily on scrounging for water from potentially contaminated sources. If you can, you should also construct a lock for your purifier so that other players can’t just come and take the water it produces when you’re not around.
