Gamescom Opening Night Live New Game Announcements

Gamescom Opening Night Live is here. With it comes a host of announcements, trailers, and world premieres.

The Gamescom event is available via The Game Awards’ YouTube channel. We’ve included the highlights here as well.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Everywhere

We begin with the show’s first world premiere. The team expressed their desire to create “a whole new world for the next generation of gamers…gamers will be a part of this, it’s not just going to be our game.”

Everywhere, with the tagline “time for a new world,” is expected to release in 2023.

Geoff Keighly spoke with Adam Whiting about what we could expect from Everywhere.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Dune Awakening

Another world premiere from Funcom and Legendary. Dune Awakening teases a video game adaptation of the franchise. You can sign up for the upcoming open world survival game’s beta on the official website.

Dualsense Edge

The new DualSense controller from PlayStation was officially announced. Geoff Keighly mentioned it’s a customizable high-performance controller, with more details coom the PlayStation blog.

The Callisto Protocol

We got a new gameplay video for The Callisto Protocol as well!

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Lords of the Fallen

From Hexworks comes Lords of the Fallen. It’s the follow-up from the 2014 game of the same name. Check out the trailer below.

Moving Out 2

The sequel to the 2020 co-op moving simulator is due out in 2023. It will be available for Nintendo Switch, Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Hogwarts Legacy

A new trailer for the upcoming Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy, was also unveiled. The game releases on February 10th, 2023, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Note: We stand against J.K. Rowling’s hateful and harmful remarks about transgender people. The game’s official site mentions that she has no direct involvement. “J.K. Rowling is not directly involved in the creation of the game, however, her extraordinary body of writing is the foundation of all projects in the Wizarding World. This is not a new story from J.K. Rowling.” If you’d like to offer support to communities affected by her bigoted comments, consider donating to the National Center for Transgender Equality or The Okra Project and be kind to one another.

New Tales From the Borderlands

Randy Pitchford from Gearbox Studios came out to unveil the upcoming game, due out on October 21st.

Sonic Frontiers

A new trailer for Sonic Frontiers was unveiled, as was the game’s release date. It is available for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam on November 8th, 2022.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Under the Waves

The new Quantic Dream game premiered during Gamescom Opening Night Live. Under the Waves will release in 2023. No gameplay was revealed, just a teaser for the title. It will launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam, and the Epic Games Store.

Goat Simulator 3

Because two weren’t enough, we got a trailer for the upcoming Goat Simulator 3.

Return to Monkey Island

The anticipated sequel to Monkey Island has a release date of September 19th!

It will be available for Nintendo Switch and PC. Pre-order for the exclusive horse armor item, which does nothing of value.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Moonbreaker

Unknown Worlds, best known for the Subnautica franchise, revealed their new turn-based strategy game, Moonbreaker. The game is in development through collaboration with best-selling author Brandon Sanderson.

Lies of P

An explosive trailer for Lie of P was unveiled. The game will release on PS4, PS5, Xbox Game pass, Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC in 2023.

Friends vs. Friends

The trailer for Friends vs. Friends looks like a multiplayer version of the sleeper hit Neon White.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Atlas Fallen

Coming in 2023 from Focus Entertainment, Atlas Fallen will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Homeworld 3

Developed by Blackbird Interactive, the upcoming real-time strategy game gets a new trailer and release window, launching in the first half of 2023 on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

High on Life

The upcoming game from Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland got a new trailer.

High on Life, developed by Squanch Games, releases for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on October 25th.

The Expanse – A Telltale Series

The next title from Telltale Games takes place in the universe of the Amazon show The Expanse. Gamescom unveils a developer diary, showcasing new footage and reviewing what to expect from the upcoming game.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Killer Klowns From Outer Space the Game

The director of the Friday the 13th game brings Killer Klowns from Outer Space The Game, a “craazzyy new take on multiplayer horror.” The game launches in early 2023 for Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Scars Above

From Prime Matter and Mad Head Games, scars Above is a Sci-Fi Action title “coming soon” for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Wyrdsong

Something Wicked Games comprises industry veterans for titles such as Fallout 3, New Vegas, Skyrim, Fallout 4, The Otuerworlds, and Dragon Age Inquisition. Their debut title, Wyrosong, got a tease at Gamescom.

Age of Empires Iv

The debut of the upcoming Age of Empires IV expansion, Ottomans and Malians, took place during Opening Night Live. It will launch as part of the game’s free anniversary update on October 25th.

Gotham Knights

A new trailer for Gotham Knights highlights the title’s villains and releases an earlier than expected release date. The game launches on October 21st for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and on Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Where Winds Meet

One of the most impressive trailers is from Everstone games. The interactive open world RPG features action, adventure, and martial arts set in a turbulent time in the Northern Song (960-1127 AD) Chinese dynasty.

Park Beyond

From Bandai Namco and Limbic Entertainment, Park Beyond offers a new trailer that showcases the mixture of amusement park simulation and imagination wonderland. The game launches for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and on the Epic Game Store in 2023.

Outlast Trials

A brand new trailer for Outlast Trials was finally revealed after a long silence from the team at Red Barrels.

A prequel to the first two titles in the Outlast franchise, the closed beta will run from October 28th through November 1st. An official release date is not available at this time.

Gamescom Opening Night Live World Premiere – Dead Island 2

Finally, the “one more thing” from Opening Night Live is something Geoff says we’ve been waiting “a loooong time for.”

Dead Island 2 has felt like it’s been in development for quite some time. Finally, the sequel to 2011’s Dead Island gets a CGI new trailer, as well as a gameplay showcase.

We learned some new details as well; the shown character, Jacob, is one of six different characters that will be playable in the game. The sequel takes place in Los Angeles, California.

From Deep Silver and Dambuster Studios, Dead Island 2 launches on February 3rd, 2023, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Alexa Game Control, Stadia, and the Epic Games Store.
