It’s the beginning of PAX East weekend, and Gearbox Entertainment’s showcase featured several exciting announcements. Perhaps most exciting was the announcement of a new Tales From the Borderlands game. The series is similar to TellTale’s The Walking Dead and is best described as interactive fiction.
Details were sparse at the show, but CEO Randy Pitchford said, “This time we’re doing it to imagine all-new characters and all-new stories in from the Borderlands.” Pitchford teased that we could expect a full reveal of the new game sometime this summer, and it would be released later this year.
Gearbox also announced that Homeworld 3 would be getting a Collector’s Edition. This edition will come complete with detailed physical versions of the ships and fleet that are prominent and majestic within the game. Homeworld 3 is expected to launch in the final part of the year. The game will allow players to “assume control and battle through fleet combat in dazzling, fully 3D space while the award-winning story unfolds on a galactic scale.”
Additionally, Gearbox is partnering with Rogue Snail to bring Relic Hunters Legend to life. It is an upcoming top-down looter-shooter to play with friends. The cartoonish looter-shooter will be free-to-play. It will feature “fast-paced gameplay, a variety of powerful equipment and weapons,” plus a cast of rowdy rebels with different skills and abilities. Players can adapt their characters to best suit their playstyle. As of now, there is no release date set for the game.
Finally, Gearbox Publishing and Under the Stairs debuted the trailer for a new roguelike, Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of One Victoria Bloom. In it, players will control Victoria Bloom, “a young girl searching for her grandfather who is lost somewhere in Bloom Manor, the family home that darkness has overrun.” The game is monochromatic and features an almost Tim Burton-esque art style.
You’ll explore the home using your flashlight and other light-based tools you find to add to your arsenal. Be watchful, though, as your light source can go out if you run out of batteries. The house is filled with monsters, and its rooms and layout are ever-changing. No two playthroughs will be the same as the house’s arrangement, and contents will change every time you play.
Eyes in the Dark: The Curious Case of One Victoria Bloom will release on Steam and the Epic Games Store on July 14 for $14.99. If you pre-order the game, you’ll receive the soundtrack for free.
