Halo Infinite Season 2 will be arriving on May 3rd. With it comes the return of King of the Hill. The Land Grab, Last Spartan Standing, and Elimination modes are also coming in Season 2.

Developer 343 Industries already dived the new maps for Halo Infinite Season 2. Now, they’ve done the same for the game modes. The highlight is the beloved King of the Hill, a “long-time classic” mode according to Zach Boyce, Multiplayer Modes & Systems Designer for 343. “The paper design part is a bit different compared to a fresh mode with a blank canvas,” he tells Halo Waypoint. “The core of the mode needs to feel the same; it should strain the same skillsets as teh classic mode and drive home the same objective fantasy as its predecessor.”

Land Grab is a throwback to the Territories mode from Halo 2 and 3. Boyce says that the team wanted to explore multi-zone objective modes that worked well on mirror-symmetrical maps for Halo Infinite Season 2. Compared to Stronghold, a mode where players fight over stationary zones, Land Grab offers a different experience.

“Once a player or team captures a Land Grab zone, it disappears from the level, banking 1 Point for the capturing team,” Boyce explains. “This naturally whittles down each set of three zones toward a final zone crescendo each set. Once all zones in a triplicate have been claimed, a new three zone set begins to spawn in new positions on the map until one team reaches 11 points.”

Last Spartan Standing is the showpiece of Halo Infinite Season 2. It ties well into the Lone Wolves moniker for the season. Spartans battle on a Big Team Map with the “you versus everyone else” mindset. Boyce goes into the perspective of how the mode evolved from its origins. At first, there wasn’t enough agency for players to participate in the battle. As the team tinkered, they arrived at the following:

“An FFA Attrition experience with a layered in Leveling system to pair with a curated on-map power-scavenging story—which currently is:

  • Random Equipment and Power Equipment come in via Ordnance Pods.
  • Equipment can be found in some interior locations.
  • On-map Weapons and Vehicles are disabled.
  • Grenades are randomized each time they spawn.”

Both King of the Hill and Last Spartan Standing will be available on day one for Halo Infinite Season 2. Land Grab will be featured during the Fracture: Entrenched event. This will launch around a month after Season 2 begins.
