Honkai Star Rail Blade is the latest character to drop in miHoYo’s latest ever-expanding game. Fans have highly anticipated blade’s release since his character was featured in the main quest storyline set on the Xianzhou Luofu planet. Now, without further ado, let’s dive into the details! We’re talking basics, skills, team compositions, light cones, and more.
What To Expect From Honkai Star Rail’s Blade?
Blade is a 5-star character set on the path of Destruction and has the Wind elemental ability. He is a notorious member of the Stellaron Hunters that wields a sword and is shrouded in mystery. He has abandoned his body to become a blade, hence the nickname. You can learn more about him from this HoYoLab post by the official miHoYo account.
If you are familiar with Hu Tao from Genshin Impact, Blade works similarly to her character. His skills require him to sacrifice a part of his HP to enhance his Basic Attacks. Enhanced Basic Attacks will allow him to inflict damage on multiple enemies simultaneously.
All of his attacks require him to sacrifice his HP for damage. This includes his Ultimate. However, he has some stellar self-healing abilities to sustain his attacks. We’ll talk about this more down below.
Honkai Star Rail Blade Abilities
Basic Attack
He has two basic attacks:
- Shard Sword: Deals Wind damage to a single enemy target.
- Forest of Swords: This will consume 42% of Blade’s max HP and deal Wind damage to multiple enemies. Damage dealt is based on his Attack and max HP. If his HP is insufficient, it will be reduced to 1 when this ability is used. This skill is unable to regenerate skill points.
Skill: Hellscape
Blade’s skill Hellscape allows him to consume his own HP and enter the Hellscape state. When this state is active, his Skill cannot be used, and his damage increases. His basic attack, ‘Shard Sword,’ will be switched to the enhanced state of ‘Forest of Swords’ for multiple turns. Using this skill will not end his turn, and it will not be able to regenerate any skill points. As previously noted, if Blade’s HP is insufficient, it will be reduced to 1.
Ultimate: Death Sentence
Death Sentence is Blade’s Ultimate, where he will set his current HP to 50% of his max HP and deal Wind damage to multiple enemies. The damage dealt is based on his Attack, max HP and total HP lost during the battle. The total HP lost for Blade in the battle will be capped at 90% of his max HP, which will be reset and re-accumulated after his Ultimate is used.
This means that his Ultimate allows him to deal the most damage and self-heals him when it is done.
Talent: Shuhu’s Gift
As for his talent, Blade has Shuhu’s Gift. When Blade is damaged, or his HP is reduced, he gains one stack of Charge that last multiple turns. He can only gain one stack of Charge every time he is attacked. Upon reaching the maximum amount of stacks, Blade will automatically launch a follow-up attack on all the enemies. He will deal Wind damage based on his Attack and max HP.
This talent will also restore his HP by 25% of his max HP. Naturally, all charges will be consumed after the attack is done.
Technique: Karma Wind
Lastly, Blade’s Karma Wind technique allows him to immediately attack the enemy when entering battle. 20% of his max HP will be consumed, and he will deal 40% of his max HP as Wind damage upon his enemies.
Honkai Star Rail Blade Light Cones
The Unreachable Side
Star Rail typically pairs up its character banners with their respective Light Cone banners for those who would like a surefire way to make their characters unstoppable. Blade’s Light Cone is ‘The Unreachable Side,’ which increases the wearer’s CRIT rate and max HP by 18%. This makes it an ideal Light Cone for Blade, as his abilities highly depend on his HP.
Additionally, the Light Cone allows for an increase of 24% in damage when its wearer is attacked or consumes their own HP. This effect is null when its wearer attacks.
Something Irreplaceable
If you are not looking to wish on Blade’s Light Cone banner, here’s an alternative 5-star Light Cone that you could use. Although, it would only make sense to use this one if you have it and don’t already equip it to a character. ‘Something Irreplaceable’ is Clara’s Light Cone, and it will allow Blade to utilize his kit while enhancing his damage output fully.
This Light Cone increases its wearer’s attack by 24% and allows for restoration of HP, equal to 8% of its character’s attack when an enemy is defeated. The equipped character’s damage will also increase by 24% until the end of their next turn. However, this effect can only be triggered once per turn and cannot be stacked.
Mutual Demise
For those looking for an accessible Light Cone, Mutual Demise is a great choice. It grants an increase of 24% in CRIT rate when the character’s HP is lower than 80%. In this sense, if you are a free-to-play player with terrible luck with Light Cones, this is the one for you. Especially since Blade’s HP is a big impact on his gameplay. This is a 3-star Light Cone.
A Secret Vow
As for the sweet spot, this 4-star Light Cone that features Arlan is one of the best you could equip Blade with. It’s not that hard to get unless your luck is absolutely terrible. This Light Cone increases the damage dealt by its wearer by 20%. Furthermore, it also deals an extra 20% of damage to enemies with a higher HP percentage than its wearer.
Damage dealing and HP dependent, perfect for Blade.

Honkai Star Rail Blade Best Relics and Ornaments
Based on his abilities, Blade is suitable as a damage dealer and perhaps even a decent tank due to his HP scaling. You should focus on relics that offer any HP or CRIT damage boosts. Let’s have a look at some:
Longevous Disciple
This set is a new relic that accompanied the Blade update. You can find it under Cavern of Corrosion: Path of Elixir Seekers. In terms of getting a 5-star relic, you would have to be able to access difficulty level 2 and above. The location of this relic is in the Alchemy Commission, so be sure to finish up your main Trailblaze quest to fully access the area.
Its bonuses are as below:
- 2-Piece Bonus: Increases wearer’s max HP by 12%.
- 4-Piece Bonus: CRIT rate increases by 8% for two turns, max two stacks when the wearer is hit, or their HP is consumed by their teammate.
Eagle of Twilight Line
Another new addition to the game following Blade’s release. You can attain this relic by doing the Cavern of Corrosion: Path of Gelid Wind. There’s no 100% chance you’ll get it, but you can always try your luck. The higher the level of the Cavern of Corrosion, the higher the rating for the relic. To get the 5-star relic, you’ll have to access difficulty level 3 and above. It is also located in the Scalegorge Waterscape, so be sure to finish up your main Trailblaze mission to access the area.
This set’s bonuses are as below:
- 2-Piece Bonus: Increase Wind damage by 10%.
- 4-Piece Bonus: The wearer’s action moves forward by 25% after using their Ultimate.
For Ornaments, here are some that Blade can utilize to maximize his potential:
Rutilant Arena
This Ornament’s 2-Piece bonus increases its wearer’s CRIT rate by 8%. As the wearer’s CRIT rate reaches 70% and above, their Basic Attack and Skill Damage will increase by 20%. You can get this ornament by playing through the Simulated Universe World 7. It is one of the attainable Immersion Rewards, so you will need to have at least 40 Trailblaze Power or 1 Immersifier to redeem it from the Immersifier.
Inert Salsotto
This Ornament’s 2-Piece Vonus will increase its wearer’s CRIT rate by 8%. When their CRIT rate reaches 50% and above, the wearer’s Ultimate and follow-up attack damage will increase by 15%. This Ornament can be found as an Immersion Reward when completing Simulated Universe World 6. Similar to the Rutilant Arena, you will need 40 Trailblaze Power or 1 Immersifier to redeem it through the Immersifier.
Team Compositions
Due to his unique abilities, Blade requires a great healer to support his fluctuating HP and a good debuffer to provide overall team support. As such, here are our picks:
Luocha, Blade, Bronya, Silver Wolf
With Blade as the primary damage dealer, Luocha will provide the ultimate heals for him to continue using his HP as a weapon. Bronya helps provide massive CRIT damage buffs, and Silver Wolf will debuff your enemies.
Regarding options, you can substitute Luocha with great healers like Natasha or Bailu. For Support, Bronya is replaceable with Yukong or Tingyun. Silver Wolf can have Pela as a substitute. As usual, it depends on what characters you have on hand and are ready to build. Either way, a healer is of utmost importance in the team.
That’s all the basic know-how of Blade! Hopefully, this guide will prove to be useful in your quest to build the best Trailblazing team in Honkai Star Rail.
